시놉시스
용산 미8군 기지촌으로 성장한 이태원은 현재, 다국적 레스토랑, 다양한 인종으로 표상되는 '핫한 이방적 공간'으로 미디어에 재현된다. 미군 대상 유흥 산업에 종사했고, 여전히 이곳에 살아가고 있는 여성들에게 이 급격한 변화는 어떤 의미로 다가올까. 다큐멘터리 <이태원>은 미군 달러가 이태원을 지배했던 시대부터 지금까지 이곳에서 살아온 여성들의 기억과 일상을 따라가며 이태원의 변화를 바라본다.
Synopsis
Itaewon, once known as a red-light district surrounding the U.S. military base in Korea, has recently been viewed as a hot, exotic area that symbolizes multinational restaurants and cultures in the media. This documentary is a story of three women who have been living in Itaewon, Seoul since the era that the town was run by U.S dollars of the U.S. Army.

One of the initial member of <the alternative culture club Youngheeya Nolja>. After working as an assistant director and a producer of distribution for ‘The Girl Princes(2012)’, she directed ‘My Father’s House (2011)’, a story of her family and the property bubbles in South Korea. And she produced the documentary film about abortion and women, ‘Let’s Dance(2013)’.
This event is organized by Laam Hae (York University), Yoonkyung Lee (University of Toronto), and Youngrong Lee (University of Toronto) and presented the Centre for the Study of Korea (CSK) at University of Toronto and co-presented by the Korean Office for Research and Education (KORE) at York University, which is funded by the AKS.
