Call for Applications for Postdoctoral Fellowship at York University

With generous funding from the Academy of Korean Studies, the Korean Office for Research and Education (KORE) at York University, Toronto, Canada is pleased to announce a postdoctoral fellowship for the 2022–23 academic year.

KORE welcomes applications from recent PhD graduates working on research projects that foster innovative and critical approaches to modern Korean history, society, and culture in South Korea, North Korea, or Korean diaspora. The fellowship aims to support the revision of dissertation for publication as a monograph. The postdoctoral fellow will be invited to give a public lecture and participate in the KORE’s activities during residence.

This postdoctoral fellowship is part of the “Korea in the World, the World in Korean Studies” (KWWK) project funded by the Core University Programs for Korean Studies of the Academy of Korean Studies. The KWWK project is led by the Korean studies faculty at York University in close collaboration with other universities in eastern Canada. The fellowship will provide the appointed postdoctoral fellow various opportunities to interact with the KWWK faculty under the supervision of Dr. Hyun Ok Park, the Project Director.

The appointed postdoctoral fellow must be physically present on the York University campus in Toronto from August 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023. This position is categorized as Postdoctoral Visitor at York University.

The Fellowship is effective August 1, 2022, with a salary of $50,000 CAD. The fellow will have full access to York University libraries.

Eligibility: Applicants must have their doctoral degree in hand by August 1, 2022. If applicants do not yet hold a Ph.D. but expect to by August 1, 2022, their supervisor should confirm their scheduled completion in the letter of recommendation.

  • Proposed statement of activities (double-spaced; 5 pages maximum)
  • Curriculum vitae (3 pages maximum)
  • Writing sample (double-spaced; 40 pages maximum)
  • Two letters of recommendation of which one must be from dissertation supervisor
